Headlight Polishing - the Self-Help Method for Cleaning
A
vehicle’s headlights are its eyes that help you navigate the road well. Like
all other parts of your vehicle, the headlights also need some care and polish
time to time. Who wants to have milky dusty headlights on their vehicle?
Headlights with polished exterior give your car or bike a sleek, maintained
look. Whether you see the vehicle as a necessity or as a style statement, time
to time headlight polishing is important. You can
polish your vehicle headlights on your own or take your vehicle to the washer
for a thorough cleaning and polishing. Before making modifications to the
vehicle, you need to clean and polish the headlights.
· Why polish from time to time?
Milky
headlights are not only bad for the look but can also be dangerous if left
without polishing. In this blog, let us talk about the do it yourself approach
cleaning and polishing your bike headlights.
·
Mask
the headlight
If
you are only going for headlight polishing, you can go
for headlight masking. If you clean the entire car and need to wash it
thoroughly, you can skip the masking. Before particular headlight
polishing, you can use painter’s tape so that any residue from
headlight polish does not affect the other parts of the car or bike. The tape
is easy to stick and pull off, making the process easier.
·
The
requirements
The headlight
polishing process needs different things that you should have at
hand. For example, you should have scrubbing pads with a sponge on one side.
Keep this pad for only car polishing purposes. Choose a good polishing compound
for the purpose. Do not mistake the rubbing compound for a polishing compound.
A rubbing compound is not right for polishing as it has a lot of grit. Any
brand of polishing compound works for the purpose. Find one that fits your
budget.
·
Start
polishing
Use
the compound for polishing by wetting the scrubbing pad. Squeez it to avoid the
excess water. Rub some polishing compound on the headlights and start rubbing
it for effect. You can do this in any motion, but choose a circular motion. A
circular motion rubbing technique ensures that the entire headlight is
polished. Do it for at least a few minutes for the best possible results. Some
5 to 7 minutes per headlight should be enough for polishing both
properly.
·
Wipe
and rinse
Once
you have polished the headlights thoroughly, you can wet your sponge a little
more and wipe the headlight. Give a good wipe with a dry cotton cloth for
buffing the headlight one final time. Wipe the headlight properly around the
points and corners of the headlight to eliminate all the compounds.
